So, an Alpha Male... What does this bring to your mind?
I could be tempted to say he’s a caveman type with boorish manners who growls “mine!” whenever he speaks of his woman, but that would be limiting. Yes, too – an Alpha male can be counted on to have a rollicking temper. He’s definitely not easy to live with (and trust me on that, I know what I’m talking about: I married a pure Alpha from the Alpha-caveman family *grin*).
Someone who knows my husband once told me that it was no wonder I chose to write Alpha heroes in all my books – after all, I have the perfect specimen right in front of me. They always say, “Write what you know” and Alpha males are not exactly a secret anymore...
But while my Alpha man is sometimes a boor and most of the time when I’m sending the china flying his way, I wish the plate would smash against his super-hard skull, that man is also my hero. Why, you may ask? Well, I’ll let one of my heroines answer this one.
Once Upon A Stormy Night, is a career girl climbing the corporate ladder with record speed. For that same reason, her love life is reduced to a non-entity, and she despairs of finding a man who will let her be who she wants to be (that is, not a staid and straight-laced baby-making machine once the ink on the wedding paper has dried.)
When she meets Lars Rutherford, a British expat with Swedish origins, on her one-night-stand date, a world she only dreamed of opens up. Lars becomes her hero, because, in her words...
“... a hero lets his woman be whoever and whatever she wants or needs to be, all within the safety and protection of his love for her. ...” (You can read how this realization came into being at this post on Hearthrob Haven)
I write Alpha males, and I hope these men are worthy heroes, as much as my Alpha is my hero and lets me be who and what I need to be, within the safety net of his love for me.
Walking The Edge (Corpus Brides: Book 1), Gerard Besson is a determined and ruthless police commissaire in Marseille, France. Coming from the wrong side of the tracks, life has never been easy for him, and the one woman he has ever loved, he lost her in a twisted game of criminal masterminding.
And when Amelia Jamison, a frail, lost Englishwoman with amnesia steps into his world, echoes of the woman he lost spread out from the depths of his forgotten heart.
Come what may, Gerard vows he will do everything to protect Amelia and help her find what her buried memory hides. Danger is the name of this game... but love finds them along the way, nevertheless.
Before The Morning (Corpus Brides: Book 2), Ash Gilfoy is a man tortured by the notion of doing the right thing. He became a cop with the Ministry of Defense in England for that reason, until he realized his hands were tied and he could do nothing to help the people he vowed to protect. Ditching the police, Ash becomes a paramedic.
Solace, and the prospect of redemption, come to him in the form of his childhood best friend, Rayne Cheltham. With the fragile, traumatized humanitarian worker, he might have a future.
Yet, as he starts to question the real trauma behind Rayne’s being away for the past seventeen years, questions arise, and secrets brew a cesspool of perdition around them.
Come what may, Ash vows he will protect his woman... but what he doesn’t realize is – who will protect him from Rayne, and the former clandestine assassin she used to be?
Calling Home (A Destiny’s Child Book) has its hero named Jamie Gillespie. Jamie is a young doctor more focused on the vocation of helping others rather than earning a fat paycheck at the end of every month. This is how, and why, he agrees to step in as country doctor in a small village in Surrey ... where he meets prickly and cool-cucumber Margo Nolan, a forensic pathologist. The only way Margo knows how to thrive as a woman in a man’s world is by stifling everything feminine inside of her – a decision that comes back to bite her in the arse when she lands custody of her 11-year-old goddaughter, Emma.
Jamie’s life mission is to help and heal, and Margo – the lost woman she hides beneath the cold and rational exterior – calls to his heart. He will do everything he can to make her trust she can be a good mother, and why not, show her that, despite the age difference between them, he could have a place in her and Emma’s lives.
Khalid Al-Nadir saved Leila from an abusive, forced marriage to a much older man in the UAE. After he wrangled a divorce with her husband, Khalid had to step in and marry Leila to ensure her protection ... and the best way he can ascertain she’ll be safe is to leave her on the island of Mauritius with his stepmother, well away from the clutches of her first husband.
Khalid knows he did the right thing, because Leila would end up hating him if she knew the real reason why he saved her.
Or would she? As they meet months later through a blind date arranged by Madame Eve, Khalid must choose to put his secrets on the line, or run the risk of losing Leila forever...
But every prodigal son must someday return home, and when he reluctantly does so, Grayson is pitched head to head against sassy and obstinate Shayne Morea, an Indo-British chef spending some time on the ranch.
As attraction escalates, both skirt around the other in hopes of evading everything they do not wish to face. How long can they keep up the pretense, especially when Forex broker Grayson, who’s been dubbed as having the Midas Touch, spreads his magic onto Shayne’s world, and they both start to see a future they had refused to contemplate before?
All of these Alpha males are there for their women, each in his own way...
