#sixsunday Before The Morning #23 - A girl's gotta do what a spy's gotta do?

Hey beautiful people!

After a rather cold and rough Saturday, where I felt the start of a cold bug making the rounds here, today it's a sunny & bright Sunday. Still chilly, so the despite the air being clean and clear, it's still perfect weather to snuggle down with an afghan and hot chocolate with a good read. Perfect for Six Sentence Sunday! :)

Back again in Vegas this week - and this time, what happens in Vegas won't stay in Vegas. Remember - in the past weeks, you've seen how Rayne has been plotting something that she doesn't want Ash to know... What was it? Get a glimpse today.

This scene takes place a few hours from last week's excerpt. A lot has happened to now-retired spy/assassin Rayne in the meantime, but I'll let her fill you in.

'...
She was invited to her sister's wedding; the card stated Rayne plus one and asked her to RSVP—her mother probably didn't believe Rayne would attend but couldn't resist sending the invite.
The gears inside Rayne's head clicked, one into the other—guests usually attended a wedding with a significant other, and if she went with her husband, that would be a statement for the world to see that she and Ash were married. She didn't know him well, as an adult, but the best friend Ash had been would never leave her in the lurch.
She bit her lip and reached for the cordless phone. A girl had to do what a girl had to do, and this time, even though her future hung in the balance, the plan had nothing to do with murder.
With slow, measured pressure, she dialled the extension for England, then for Hastings, followed by the family home number.
...'

How far will she go? Life is not a strategy board, is it? Grab your copy of Before The Morning (Corpus Brides: Book Two) and find out.

Don't forget to check some amazing SSS peeps on the official list - Jessica E. Subject, Cassandra Dean, Michelle Pickett, Cara Bristol, Carmen deSousa, Sara Walter Ellwood, Taryn Kincaid, Rhonda Hopkins, Sue Ann Bowling, Krystal Shannan, Susanna Fraser - among many others!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend, everyone!

From Mauritius with love,

Zee

I'm curious. Why doesn't she know her 'husband', and why does she apparently live in a different country? Interesting snip.

Well, you certainly created lots of questions with this snippet. Why has it been so long since they've been together? Why did they get married? Why does she suddenly want her family to know she's married? Great snippet, Zee.

Love the idea of a female spy/assassin dealing with an assignment of a different nature. Which type is harder for her I wonder? Fun six.

I like this character and the way her mind works, great six!

Sometimes those decisions can be more difficult that the life or death ones. Can't wait to see how this works out. Always a pleasure reading your samples, Zee. You pack a lot of punch into sex sentences. :)

Lol, Rinelle. Let me try a recap :) Rayne and Ash were best friends when growing up. They parted ways when they were 17 - everyone thinks Rayne went into humanitarian work that has kept her away from England for more than 15 years... except that she has been working as a cpy and assassin for a clandestine agency all this time.

Clear as mud? LOL. Thanks for dropping over! xoxo

Thanks Jess. Lol, that's Rayne's mind at work. Completely twisted, but the girl's intentions stem from a good heart. :) XOXO

Thanks Sabrina! Funny you mention this in your comment - Rayne's been on all kinds of killing assignments, but the toughest mission for her will be to return to the family fold. :) xoxo

Lol. Thanks Gemma! :) XOXO

Exactly, Carmen - it's the little things sometimes that can be harder, and that make the whole difference. :) XOXO

Beautifully written Zee...leaves me with lots of questions though! I'll have to make sure I stop back in next week and get more details.

Taryn Kincaid said...

Wow. I didn't realize they were married! Really intriguing.

So she's married but hasn't seen her husband. Does he know that she's a spy? My mind is blown with a zillion questions. I bet the family dynamics is more headache for her than being a spy! LOL

Sue Ann Bowling said...

I get a feeling that she's not actually married, but wants her family to think she is--and incidentally put Ash in a bit of a spot.

Those +1s can be a real pain - for all sorts of reasons... Intriguing as to what her issue is.

Cara Bristol said...

She's very sneaky. What a tough life she's had. Haven't finished the book yet, but it's a great story.

Susanna Fraser said...

Ooh, intriguing. She obviously HAS had an eventful last few hours...

Lol, Taryn! The wedding happened in the past few hours in the story... :)xoxo

Zee Monodee said...

Carrie, she has seen her husband, but he might not have a clue yet they're married... :) Just like he has no clue she was a spy. And true again - her family is a social nightmare come true, lol! XOXO

Zee Monodee said...

Sue, you're not totally that far from the mark - they are married, but she does still want to put Ash in a bit of a spot. :) xoxo

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Kristal - I know about the +1s! :) More to come soon XOXO

Zee Monodee said...

Oh yes, Cara - sneaky indeed. But somehow, that's how she's been trained to function, so who can blame her, really? Poor girl

Zee Monodee said...

Lol, Susanna! Yes, it's been a eventful few hours, indeed! :) xoxo
