It's been one week since Inescapable went up for sale (and took both me and my co-writer, Natalie G. Owens) by surprise as we expected the usual delays from Amazon before the link going live. Amazon surprised us by pushing our release out within 24 hours! So there we were last week, scrambling for purchase all while being in that dazed state of " OMG! My book has come out!"
Have we come back to Earth by today? Not really. I mean, why shouldn't we keep on enjoying that high, eh?
And I'm taking you back to the Great Hall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art of 82nd St in New York. Remember - Adri, my heroine (in that I came up with her persona & wrote her POV in this series), is the daughter of Greek god Dionysos and a human maenad.
That maenad side of her allows her to gather energy from crowds, and she can impress her will on mobs or even groups of people.
Everyone at the gala has been staring at her (last week's excerpt, though we pick up a few paragraphs from this one) - women with a sour look; men with X-ray vision. Adri has just shaped her will into a command to leave her the heck alone and is now strolling easily into the gathering. Until... someone comes up.
“Tell me who the bastard is so I can sock him one,” a smooth, masculine voice said close to her. “Or maybe, I should just thank him.”
She turned, and her breath hitched in her throat. The man who stood before her was male beauty personified. His tall, well-built body carried the custom-tailored tuxedo with inherent grace that rode side by side with ruthless power. And his face... The features on his lean face were sharp, but only so that they wouldn’t look too chiseled. The deep-blue eyes danced with merriment and mischief, and the hint of stubble on his cheeks carried the same golden glint of his short blond hair.
He could’ve been an angel, were it not for the sardonic lift of his sensual, well-shaped mouth.
Quel culot! He was having fun at her expense.
And why the hell had he not heeded the call of her magic? Did recklessness fuel his blood? Or was it something deeper, something…not entirely human?
“I beg your pardon?” she asked in a cool voice.
Who is this mystery man? None other than Desmond Roxburgh (he goes by the name Des, btw). And yep, he will be Adri's love interest in this series. A man/creature she cannot fathom for the life of her, the only person who remains elusive and mysterious to her. Needless to say, to a woman who can sum everything up with one touch, Des proves to be an obsessive puzzle.
And would you seriously let a man go if he looked like this?
Yep, that's how I always pictured Des Roxburgh - the very sardonic-looking Michael Vartan.
Want to know more about what happens between Adri and Des? Then grab your copy of this indie book at these links (We just uploaded to Smashwords so both that outlet and B&N have not yet gone live for us, sadly...)
