Someone from Adri's past? From INESCAPABLE Bk1 of #Eternelles #pararom #snippetsunday

Hey beautiful people!

It's Mother's Day today in Mauritius, and lol, I am not looking to a day of being pampered. Business as usual...though I have a new addition to my shoes collection. The blokes got me an amazing pair of summer clogs with wood sole and heel, and a crocheted lace front. Beautiful!

Anyhow, Sunday snippet... Back to the gala at the Met in New York. Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysos, the heroine I wrote in the Eternelles series, has met a man who has tilted her world in a way no man has for a long, long time. A supernatural creature, she can figure anyone out with a mere touch...but this bloke remains a mystery to her. And instead of seeing inside his psyche when she takes his hand, Adri sees images of places she's been in throughout her 2,800 years on Earth. (See it in last week's excerpt)

Who is he? This question triggers a memory...

'...
And if she probed deeper, she would also remember that one time when her world had tilted on its axis—the moment on a dark terrace under a moonless sky when a masked man had pulled her into his arms for a dance away from the prying eyes of the ball’s guests, when this complete stranger had kissed her, and seared his presence into her heart. If she were to look the truth in its face, she would acknowledge that she had spent the past thousand years looking for hints of that masked man in the face of every male she encountered.
His kiss and his touch had ruined her for others, and she still had no clue who he was.
“...looking for a scroll and I told him you would be the authority on that,” Susan said.
Adri blinked out of her memories, to realize her hand had limply fallen to her side when Des had released her. A soft tingle remained in her fingertips. Definitely strange, but not enough to suggest that he could be a supernatural creature. This man was as human as one could get.
Not a threat, then. Or was he?

From INESCAPABLE Bk1 of #Eternelles: Who is this mystery man stalking Adri?

Hey peeps!

It's a beautiful, sunny, and balmy Sunday morning in Mauritius today. The rushing, cold winds we'd been having thanks to an anti-cyclone system all through the week have let up, and it's back to being manageably cool. As long as the sun is shining, I'm good. :)

Not so sunny in the world of Eternelles - where my heroine, Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysios, has just come across a man who doesn't seem to respond to her magic. In other words, a man who doesn't understand the spell-like command to "leave her the heck alone!" What can I say, he's tenacious...and in a way, he's got to be to deal with a headstrong, 2900-yr-old immortal.

But who is this mystery man, and what does he really do to Adri? Her unease around him cannot come simply from the fact that he is immune to her magic, innit?

We jump a few lines from last week's excerpt. Remember, they're at a gala at the Met in New York. Susan, one of the curators of the museum, and a good friend of Adri, has just introduced these two, and it looks like she is playing matchmaker, which Adri abhorres!

'...
Des Roxburgh put out his right hand. “You go by Adri, if I’m not mistaken.”
She’d look like an impolite bitch if she refused his handshake. No matter how loud something inside of her screamed in warning to not let him get too close to her. Why, she wanted to know? Because he was dangerous? In that case, with the merest contact against his skin, she would be able to figure out what he was.
So she resolutely took the outstretched hand, and quelled the shock that coursed through her system when they touched. His eyes darkened, she couldn’t help but notice, and in that split second before he released her, she glimpsed prairie fields and rock walls, desert sand and calm lakes, beautiful gardens redolent with sunshine and the fragrance of flowers.
All of them places she had been in throughout her existence. How could he have the same memories? Or else, how could he evoke such remembrances in her? These were all moments when she had felt at peace with herself and with the universe.

...'

Who is this man? Curious to find out? *grin*

How to write about Africa...when you've never been there!

Hey peeps!

It was my turn today to post at The Pop Culture Divas, the group blog I belong to with a few other (awesome!) writers. I've been remiss in posting on my set day lately, so I apologize there...and put across a new post.

As ye all must know, I manage the Ubuntu line at Decadent Publishing. Geared towards African romance, with locations in Africa and characters hailing from or living in Africa and its societies, the line aims at giving reads that sweep you into a whole new world that is simply a continent or an ocean away.

But most authors think you need to be a native of Africa to write for Ubuntu, and the question I am often asked is this:

How do I write about Africa...when I've never been there?

Head to my post on The Pop Culture Divas blog today and read how you can do that!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

From INESCAPABLE Bk1 of #Eternelles: Meet Adri's hero! #fantasy #urbanfantasy #pnr #snippetsunday

Hey beautiful people!

It's been one week since Inescapable went up for sale (and took both me and my co-writer, Natalie G. Owens) by surprise as we expected the usual delays from Amazon before the link going live. Amazon surprised us by pushing our release out within 24 hours! So there we were last week, scrambling for purchase all while being in that dazed state of " OMG! My book has come out!"

Have we come back to Earth by today? Not really. I mean, why shouldn't we keep on enjoying that high, eh?

And I'm taking you back to the Great Hall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art of 82nd St in New York. Remember - Adri, my heroine (in that I came up with her persona & wrote her POV in this series), is the daughter of Greek god Dionysos and a human maenad.
That maenad side of her allows her to gather energy from crowds, and she can impress her will on mobs or even groups of people.

Everyone at the gala has been staring at her (last week's excerpt, though we pick up a few paragraphs from this one) - women with a sour look; men with X-ray vision. Adri has just shaped her will into a command to leave her the heck alone and is now strolling easily into the gathering. Until... someone comes up.

'...
“Tell me who the bastard is so I can sock him one,” a smooth, masculine voice said close to her. “Or maybe, I should just thank him.”
She turned, and her breath hitched in her throat. The man who stood before her was male beauty personified. His tall, well-built body carried the custom-tailored tuxedo with inherent grace that rode side by side with ruthless power. And his face... The features on his lean face were sharp, but only so that they wouldn’t look too chiseled. The deep-blue eyes danced with merriment and mischief, and the hint of stubble on his cheeks carried the same golden glint of his short blond hair.
He could’ve been an angel, were it not for the sardonic lift of his sensual, well-shaped mouth.
Quel culot! He was having fun at her expense.
And why the hell had he not heeded the call of her magic? Did recklessness fuel his blood? Or was it something deeper, something…not entirely human?
“I beg your pardon?” she asked in a cool voice.

...'

Who is this mystery man? None other than Desmond Roxburgh (he goes by the name Des, btw). And yep, he will be Adri's love interest in this series. A man/creature she cannot fathom for the life of her, the only person who remains elusive and mysterious to her. Needless to say, to a woman who can sum everything up with one touch, Des proves to be an obsessive puzzle.

And would you seriously let a man go if he looked like this?

Yep, that's how I always pictured Des Roxburgh - the very sardonic-looking Michael Vartan.

Want to know more about what happens between Adri and Des? Then grab your copy of this indie book at these links (We just uploaded to Smashwords so both that outlet and B&N have not yet gone live for us, sadly...)

INESCAPABLE, Bk1 of #Eternelles, a new #urbanfantasy series, is OUT! Here's where you can find it!

Hey beautiful people!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!! The day has finally come - I am now indie published! Thanks to the relentless pursuing of my bestie, Natalie G. Owens, who wouldn't let go of the idea that the two of us should "definitely write something together & send it out there in the world", we now have the very first book in the paranormal/urban fantasy series Eternelles out!

I can go on and on about this book (as I'm sure you've realized by now!), but they say an image is worth a thousand words. A book trailer... even more!

Here's what you need to know about INESCAPABLE:

An immortal born from an unlikely alliance...

Beautiful mythic Greek heiress Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysios has roamed the world for millennia, taking her pleasure where she wanted. Until one night, when Fate drops a baby wrapped in fire into her arms. Motherhood is a formidable challenge, but so is figuring out the identity of a mystery man who makes her pulse race.

A vampyre’s obsession…

Seraphine 'Sera' Dionysios' origins are shrouded in mystery. Torn between a mother whose blood saved her life, and a man who now possesses her soul, the only thing Sera can still cling to is her heart.

One rule matters above all others: Always protect the portal…

When Evil comes to Adri and Sera’s hometown of Shadow Bridge, a place where the mortal human world ends and the supernatural realm starts, it’s up to them to stop a prophecy as old as time itself...or die trying.

From Bk1 of #Eternelles INESCAPABLE: Get into Adri's head! #snippetsunday

Hey beautiful people!

I woke up this morning and came online to the news that... INESCAPABLE is now available on the Amazon platform! My bestie and collab writer, Natalie G Owens, has worked her little fingers off despite being on vacation to make us meet the deadline we had imposed to have Book1 of the Eternelles series out in early May!

Can you say giddy and ecstatic? I'm over the moon!

But back to the topic here - a snippet for your Sunday reading. So far, I've been focusing on the chaotic relationship between 'my' heroine, Adri, and her daughter, Sera, (written by Natalie).
Today, I take you away from that bond and put you more into Adri's frame of mind. What goes on in her head? How does she see the world, especially after having lived for 2,900 years?
Read on to get a glimpse! (FYI, William was her daughter's fiance, the man who died on the Titanic)

'...
Thoughts of William seared the blunt edge of a red-hot knife inside her, and she shook her head before going up the rest of the stairs and entering the museum’s Great Hall. As always, stepping into this place threw her a few centuries into the past—the neo-classical design, dramatic arches, and immense domes reminded her of castles in which she had lived. The heels of her Pigalle Louboutin pumps hit the marble mosaic floor with a clip-clop that hadn’t echoed as much in those times, when ladies wore dainty slippers on their feet.
Tables were set up in the hall, artfully arranged in a sable and gold palette that merged seamlessly with the colors of the Great Hall under the diffuse, dusky glow from spotlights carefully concealed in nooks and crannies. Elegantly dressed women, and men in tuxedos, strolled around the interior. More than one pinched look on the women’s faces acknowledged her presence.
And here it starts. Again. The men openly unclothed her with their eyes—despite the thick, quilted garment on her. How she wished she could ward off their lustful stares from her body.

...'
