About Me

Some facts about me:

I’ve loved books for as far as I can remember! I received my first book at age 6, for my birthday, and I’ve never looked back. Most of the time, if anyone wants to know where I am, they’ll find me in my ‘spots’ around our place with my nose in a book (usually a tablet or phone coz screens have ruined me, & I am soooo slow reading print now 😊)

I was always imagining stories. Whether for my dolls & stuffed toys, then later ‘reimagining’ the many soap operas I devoured in the 80s/90s (I’d later come to know I was technically doing fan fiction!)

I’ve had a love affair with words from the moment I discovered language in school. My primary school teacher used to come by my desk at essay time and sigh, asking, “Are you writing a novel again?” (because I’d always go waaaay beyond the word count assigned! Little did he know his words would be almost prophetic...)

I’ve been in love with ‘love’ all my life! Didn’t know how to put words on it when I was little, but that’s what I was looking for. Parental, societal, then later romantic love—I’ve chased them during all my younger days. As a grown up, self-love became the name of this chase – most days, I think I’ve found it; some days are more difficult, though...

I’m now into my 40s...though it refuses to compute sometimes. I tend to think I finished high school like just a couple years ago, when it’s been a couple decades...

I’ve been with my husband for 23 years & counting now! Uhm, even I’m amazed by this number. It doesn’t feel this long...and at the same time, it’s almost a miracle we survived so long because marriage, I’ve found, is more commitment than actual feelings, and the road hasn’t been smooth (but for who has it been, truly?)

We’ve brought up a baby into a boy into a teenager into a young man...and he seems normal & well-adjusted 😊 Another miracle, this one.

I’m a total sucker for our cat, who knows I’m insurance/carer/sucker for everything & anything! Seriously, though, love my fur baby. She’s one of the brightest spots of our life.

I’m also a goner for cake! I’m not picky—carrot cake, red velvet cake, chocolate cake; cake is cake (and yes, I’m a total Great British Bake Off fan!)

I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer three times... Yep, you read that right. Still here, still kicking, pretty much of a miracle, really...

Which brings me to ‘my’ word for life: Miracle.

In my day-to-day, I’m not much of an author nowadays (though the bug might bite again; who knows? Right now, writing isn’t compatible with my life—a few health scares making me mind my time spent in a chair, and I’m an all-or-nothing author who strives unhealthily to finish a book in a month, so...).
But I am surrounded by books, my other, more driving passion being editing! I love being an editor for other authors, getting to work with words and imagination and the human creativity that never ceases to amaze me!

In my free time (which I have to force myself to take—I’m a total workaholic!), I’m usually with a book, or in the kitchen trying new recipes, or binge-ing TV shows with my husband. Other loves of mine include astrology, Tarot decks & oracle cards, and I’m totally into all that woo-woo stuff 😊

I also love meeting new people & engaging with friends, so don’t hesitate to reach out & drop me an email sometime or DM me on IG or FB!

From Mauritius with love,

Zee
